From the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, John Reyelt held various positions within the hotel industry on the west coast of Florida. These positions ranged from General Manager for a 200 unit Convention and Resort Hotel in Treasure Island, Florida to Vice President of Operations for Florida National Resorts, a premier property management firm.

In 1987, John Reyelt started in the development management industry with Shawnee Development, Inc., then one of the largest developers, in the United States. He used his hospitality experience and innovative management style to produce programs with high quality service levels, at the Sand Pebble Resort in Treasure Island, Florida, and the Island Gulf Resort in Maderia Beach, Florida.

In 1988, Shawnee Development, asked Reyelt to serve as Project Director for the Yachtsman Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Mellon Bank of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had taken the resort back in lieu of foreclosure from the developer. Shawnee was hired to manage the Homeowners Associations along, with hotel operations. For his efforts, Mr. Reyelt was promoted to Vice President for South Carolina Operations in 1990.

In 1992, he and his partners formed Gold Crown Management, Inc. They were awarded the management contracts for the Yachtsman Resort. Today, the firm is managing over 60 communities throughout the state of South Carolina, servicing over 15,000 homeowners and responsible for nearly 25 million dollars annually in receivables and additional income.

Reyelt served two terms as a Director for the South Carolina Chapter of the Community Associations Institute of which he served as Treasurer, President-Elect and President for three of those years.

While in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area, Reyelt has served three terms as a Board Member for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, President and a founding member of the Grand Strand Vacation Ownership Association, and fourteen years on various Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Programs, the last four as the Vice-Chairman for the Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Corporation. He also served as Director and President for the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, Chairman of the MBAHA Education and Employee Relations Committee, (which was responsible for developing the first hospitality performance rating system for Myrtle Beach), Board Member for the Coastal Carolina University-Resort Tourism Management Program-Advisory Board, a Director for the South Carolina Hotel Association, the President of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Game, President of the South Carolina Chapter of US Lacrosse and President of the Myrtle Beach Area Lacrosse Club. Mr. Reyelt is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

In 2001, Reyelt was recognized by the City of Myrtle Beach, as the volunteer of the year. In 2005, Reyelt was inducted into the South Carolina Lacrosse Hall of Fame for his contributions to the growth of the sport, in South Carolina. He is an original member of the Irish Lacrosse Foundation, Inc.

Reyelt has been a panelist and speaker for seminars hosted by the American Resort Development Association and the Community Association Institute. He is a featured speaker on The Role of the Community Manager Regarding the Administration and Enforcement of the Rules and Regulations for Community Associations and has lectured on a regular basis at Coastal Carolina University's Resort Tourism Management Program regarding hospitality issues.

John Reyelt is a Certified Hotel Administrator by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Registered Resort Professional by The American Resort Development Association, an Association Management Specialist, a Certified Manager of Community Associations by the National Board of Community Association Managers, A Professional Community Association Manager by the Community Associations Institute, completed additional professional management development programs in; Managing the Large-Scale Associations; Advanced Insurance and Risk Management; Manager and the Law; High Rise Maintenance; Management Company Administration; Managing Developing Communities and Management and Contemporary Issues in Community Association Management.

Reyelt holds six world records as certified by The Guinness Book of Records: Worlds Tallest Sandcastles 1985 (3 stories); and 1986 (5 stories, 300 yards long); Longest Sand Sculptures 1989 (3.2 miles), 1990 (5.2 and 10.45) and 1991 (16.39 miles long).

A native of Scarsdale, New York, Reyelt played both football and lacrosse in high school, where he achieved All-American honors for lacrosse. Following high school, in 1973, he went on to the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he also played football and lacrosse. He is a lifelong member of the Cornell Hotel Society.
